First P Day in Chile

So we slept in until like 8 this morning which felt awesome! Went downstairs and our momita made us some food (pretty much just got bread from the store they have in their "garage" (which people do all over Chile)) but I'm not complaining because most missionaries here don't even get breakfast (so I've heard) because they are too lazy to make their own.

We then went to the beach, I uploaded those pics to Costco so happy birthday! speaking of which, mine is very soon.  The Beach was awesome, no one was there and its summer, apparently it's like that all year. No one visits the beach.  I don't think the people of Lebu realize they have the ocean right there. I think I'm going to add that to part of my contact...
We then came home, ate our huge lunch which is customary and we showered and ran over here! So we are in a cyber now, and its loud as usual, I take it black opps is a great game?

In Sacrament meeting on Sunday I just introduced myself so that was OK, I stumbled through my name and where I am from.  Apparently I messed up because everyone asks me about my 5 brothers and I don't know what I said but whatever.

So I found out that there is a hole in the ozone above Chile (where we are more specifically) and that is why my SPF 50 is not working. Yep I got a little blood blister today at the beach from the sun after applying the lotion twice, I don't know how the people here don't have skin cancer at age 10 because no one burns or even puts on the stuff.  It's ridiculous. So I'm applying it like every hour now. This place is so deceiving, it's not hot at all, the wind keeps you really cool and I have not really sweat at all since being here, but the rays are just killer.

My companion taught an evangelical woman the first lesson outside her door and she was pretty accepting, at least I think, I couldn't understand her. Oh and we contacted an old woman that did not want to hear from us because she liked her church.  My companion asked if God told her to switch churches would she, and she said no, she liked her church, he then said but that's Gods will, not just yours anymore, and she said I don't care, I like my church. We should all learn from this, its not just the church that we need to like, its the message behind the church. Sure the people and the friendships are great in the church, but I'm not here because of my best friends, or my college roommates.  All that is great but I'm here because of the message of the church.  All those friendships might change but the words of Christ never will. May we all feel the same and not just go to church because of the people.

I love you all,  keep safe, stay classy, and throw away that dumb shake weight of Trevor's.
bye till next week, Kyle

Christmas Arrival in Chile

14 hour Flight to Chile
(with emergency landing in Peru due to engine problems)

Feliz Navidad

The Lebu River.  After the earthquake the land shifted so much that the river now runs as a stream.  Fishing boats remain beached 9 months later.  This coastal town is still feeling the effects of the powerful earthquake.

December 6, 2010

Week 7?  I don't even remember, we should get travel plans in 4 days.

Mom here are the answers to your questions.

1.  Do you need anything before you leave?
Maybe some cold medicine,  I'm getting really sick with a cold and they have nothing like sudafed I can take or break, you know I can't swallow pills, hahaha

2. Did you get to see the Christmas Devotional?  Silent Night is always my favorite.  I loved the Christmas start story from President Monson.
Yes! oh man that was the best devotional ever! I loved Uchtdorf's 3 points, and that we need to look and wait for the second coming like the people of old did for the first coming, man that was amazing! and President Monson was great as well, it was just great in general, great music... ANYWAY! We watched it an hour later then it was broadcasted so we could watch it all. It aired during fast Sunday dinner so no one would ever want to skip that. but it would have been OK because the food is gross, I skipped lunch because I didn't even want to try anything.

3.  When is the next Dr. appointment?  How is your foot feeling?
December 14th is my next one, I am in a brace, can't feel temp in my toes but I'm doing OK. Don't know what else to say about it but I know that I will eventually be OK.

So yes as I think I said somewhere that we should be getting our travel plans this week, if it's before Friday I will send a post card, if not ill just wait till next Monday to tell you because it will be about that time the post card gets there anyway!!

Andrew: thanks so much for the brownies and pictures and note you all left me. I was sad to see no invisible cloak or iPhone in the  brownies.

So thanks for the sports updates, I heard about Oregon and OR State sad there was no huge upset!

Well, Trev, stay classy

Mom, thanks for everything, I will be calling on the 20th  at every airport because we are allowed to if we are leaving the states.
I cant think of anything else  that I need. I am just generally scared about leaving the country. Leaving the country in 2 weeks, its just all so overwhelming especially because I can't understand my Spanish teachers! but eventually it will come.

Love you all sooo much!!!

The beginning of Week 7
So we should be getting travel plans next week I think, we are all crossing our fingers to leave before Christmas because we can call while at the airport and then again on Christmas day. But if we stay here at the MTC we don't get the Christmas phone call.

Thanksgiving:
We had Jeffry R Holland come and talk to us and i just have to say that that was the greatest talk i have every heard in my life! He had some missionaries here that meant a lot to him and they bore testimonies, then he had his grandchildren come up and sing to us, and then he gave a 15minute, crazy amazing talk. It was about Christ and how he knows us so personally, by our first name. there was more, it was amazing. anyway...

Tell grandpa I love and miss him, and I want to challenge him to a race right now. With my terribly gimpy foot and his surgery, I think it would be super close!  I read my patriarchal blessing last week and I could just hear him saying it in my ear. What an experience.

So i got skunked (no mail) all week last week,  what  a humbling experience that was.

The beginning of Week 6
We will be the oldest district in the zone VERY soon.

Here is some general information to answer your questions.
  • What are your teachers like?  Well, one served in Guatemala and has lots of fun games to teach Spanish. but he was a zone leader for most of his mission so is like crazy about every little rule, which is fine but ya, you know, hahaha.

  • What have you heard about Chile? The dogs are crazy and the fleas are really bad. Is there a flea collar for humans you can send me? possibly?

  • Are you getting excited to go?  I kind of hate the MTC soooo..... YES! We all want to go right now. we are soooo NOT excited for our sack lunch Thanksgiving breakfast and dinner! My companion Elder Corliss went home to have surgery on his shoulder Friday and will be back this Friday, he gets a legit Thanksgiving meal, no bueno.

I love you all, and pray for you always!!
